Utility trailer maintenance

Good suggestions above. Anytime I stop I'll be feeling the hubs for one that's hotter than the others. If any get hot you'll want to go surgical asap for bearing repack and seal replacement. A new seal costs about five bucks or less. I use mobil 1 synthetic grease. It's expensive but like you...I have zero tolerance for trouble on the road because of my negligence. How often for grease? Heavier the load and higher the mileage the more often. Trailers are trouble waiting to happen. Tires will often look brand new and be rotten as last year's compost. Read the dates. Having one blow on I35 at speed is bad in so many ways I won't even try to list them. Yeah...I'm kinda fanatical about preventative maintenance on trailers. Lifetime of good reasons for it. If you're short on space or equipment for dealing with bearings then hook up and drag it to my place (College Station). I'm setup to do that job in a matter of minutes. You're welcome to use the tools and equipment and I'll be around for moral support. Gooseneck trailers in Bryan probably has everything you need and they're usually way less expensive than parts stores for bearings etc.
