I need to take out the Moen cartridge (model 1225) from the kitchen faucet every 3 months to lubricate it with silicone faucet grease because the handle becomes hard to operate. Our water is from lake Michigan so it's not hard water. Is this normal?

I've been going through a similar exercise (but not the same) over the last year and a half with my two handle bathroom vanity sink.
Our water is from the Detroit Water system so it's not ground water. It has a normal amount of calcium.
I've spent a fair amount of money for the faucet (high arc) and yes, I understand that with an aerator, after you turn the faucet off you will get a couple of residual drips. This isn't that. When testing this, I remove the aerator and use a paper towel to dry out any residual water in the spout. After anywhere between an hour or two the water appears at the drain.
My take is that the Moen cartridge design is not robust. From what can tell and read about this problem, they have to see nearly perfect water conditions (next step would be to use distilled water!) to function correctly. I'm now in the midst of the fourth leaky faucet in about a 18 months. I've just sent in an email to Moen this morning.
Why am I contacting Moen? When the faucet first leaked, I went and purchased the 1234 replacements thinking this will be a quick fix. Nope. It started leaking soon afterwards.
They've since sent me replacement valves and cartridges and I'm on the the third leak since that exercise continued.
I've run into a few people online that have the same on-going issue.

I've getting ready to purchase a "cheaper" unit (not Moen), that functions correctly.
