When you need to cool off from the heat this Frozen Pear Margarita cocktail will certainly do the job! It all starts with a classic frozen margarita recipe and gets even better from there. Pear nectar and pear liqueur are then added to bring the flavors to the next level. Your margarita has been upgraded.
I grew up eating pears all the time and as I got older it never changed. I truly enjoy the fresh, rich, and velvety taste you get when biting into one of these juicy delicacies.
Recently in the home bar, I was experimenting with new cocktails and realized how awesome pear liqueur taste. And I wanted to create something that would carry the pear flavor but was refreshing at the same time. In comes the margarita.
This margarita is a spin on the classic incorporating a combination of pear nectar juice, pear liqueur, Grand Marnier, key lime juice, cinnamon simple syrup, and of course tequila. Tequila makes every cocktail taste better. 🙂
Pears can range in sweetness and can be very mild to very sweet. For example, the most widely found in the U.S. is the Green Anjou. On a scale of one to ten, this pear variety is probably a six in terms if sweetness. It has a subtle sweetness followed by a refreshing lemon-lime flavor. With that said, it will take a bit to ensure the pear flavor is present in this margarita; which is why I use both pear nectar and pear liqueur for this recipe.
There are five types of tequila: Blanco (Silver/White), Joven (Gold), Reposado (Aged), Añejo (Extra-aged), and Extra Añejo (Ultra-aged). For margaritas, I would recommend going with a Blanco or Reposado. Since Joven is very rare, and Añejo and Extra Añejo are best enjoyed as-is (sipping tequilas), these two types are your best route.
Choosing your tequila is all based on preference, but I can honestly say that choosing a high-quality tequila can enhance your margarita experience. And quality is not equivalent to the price. There are several great tequilas on the market that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
Start mixing by making your cinnamon simple syrup by adding one cup of water, one cup of sugar, and four cinnamon sticks into a container and allow the sugar to dissolve. Overnight is best for the cinnamon version, but if you are using plain simple syrup it is ready in minutes.
Once you give the simple syrup a few swirls just allow the sugar to dissolve and you can begin your margarita experience.
Add all ingredients into the blender then top off with ice. I find it more effective to pulse the blender as this seems to blend the ice better giving your cocktail a smooth consistency.
Pour your salt or sugar in a margarita salt box. Wet the rim of your glass and roll the edges in the salt or sugar.
Pour contents into your margarita glass and top with an extra shot of pear liqueur. The more the merrier right, lol?
When you want to experience and a great margarita with a twist give this Frozen Pear Margarita a shot. I think if you are a pear lover and a lover of margaritas you will love this cocktail. Cheers!
