How to Apply Paint Guard on Skirting Boards?

It can be frustrating to have to re-paint skirting boards over and over again due to scuffs and scrapes. That is why applying paint guard is a good solution. Paint guard will protect your skirting boards from future damages, making them last longer and look new. But how do you apply paint guard on skirting boards effectively? Here are some steps to follow.

Step 1: Clean the skirting boards.

Before applying paint guard, you need to clean your skirting boards thoroughly. Use a damp cloth and a mild cleaning solution to remove any dirt, grime, dust, or grease. Make sure to dry the skirting boards properly before proceeding.

Step 2: Prepare the paint guard.

Paint guard comes in a small bottle, and you will need a brush to apply it effectively. Open the bottle and stir the paint guard solution inside the bottle. Make sure to stir it thoroughly to distribute any settling or separation that occurred.

Step 3: Apply the paint guard.

Dip the brush into the paint guard solution and start with an even coat onto the upper edge of the skirting board. Ensure you apply the paint guard in one direction to get a uniform look. If you get any paint guard on the wall, use a dry cloth to wipe it off immediately. Move across to the next section and repeat the process until the entire skirting board is covered. Leave the paint guard to dry for at least 24 hours before touching it or applying any other paint.

Step 4: Apply second coat if necessary.

If you want to further reinforce the paint guard, you can apply a second coat once the first coat has dried. Apply using the same technique as in step three and wait for it to dry before applying any other paint.

Step 5: Clean the brush.

Clean the brush in warm water and mild soap immediately after use. Hen, rinse the brush thoroughly in clean water and allow it to dry before using it again.
