First, let’s cover the basics. RES touch requires pressure on the touchscreen, while PCAP can sense the proximity of a finger. RES touch also requires periodic calibration and has lower transmittance in comparison to PCAP. And in terms of appearance, RES touch often has lower contrast, due to reflections from an extra layer of material over the screen.
RES touch is generally lower in cost, but lacks many of the advantages specific to PCAP. For a small difference in price, capacitive touch offers easy and flexible operation, higher contrast, enhanced durability, and improved accuracy. PCAP touch continues to be the better technology relative to RES, and the one that will enable new and more reliable features for the user in terms of technology, security, and safety while improving the user experience.
